Make Your Own Snuffle Ball A Fun DIY Activity for Dogs

Are you looking for an engaging and stimulating activity to enrich your dog's life? Consider making a snuffle ball! This DIY dog toy not only appeals to your dog’s natural foraging instincts but also provides mental stimulation and physical exercise. Here’s how to create your own snuffle ball, ensuring that your furry friend enjoys hours of entertainment.

What You'll Need

1. A ball base You can use a rubber ball or an old tennis ball. If you choose a tennis ball, make sure to cut a slit in it, allowing you to stuff the fabric through. 2. Fleece fabric A few pieces of fleece in different colors will add vibrancy and texture. Fleece is preferable since it’s soft, durable, and easy to manipulate. 3. Scissors Sharp scissors will help you cut the fabric into strips.

4. Treats Small, smelly dog treats or kibble will serve as rewards as your dog plays with the snuffle ball.

1. Prepare the Fleece Cut the fleece into strips about 1 inch wide and 6-8 inches long. Aim for around 20-30 strips to create a sufficiently stuffed ball.

2. Assemble the Ball If you're using a rubber ball, poke holes all over it, ensuring enough space to weave the fleece strips through. For a tennis ball, use the slit to insert the strips.

3. Insert the Fabric Take a fleece strip and tie a knot or pull it through the holes in the rubber ball, letting the ends hang out. Continue this process until the ball is fully stuffed with fleece. Make sure to leave some strips long enough to catch your dog's attention!

4. Add Treats If you’ve used a tennis ball with a slit, place some treats inside before tying off the fleece strips. If necessary, you can also sprinkle some treats among the fleece.

5. Enjoy the Fun Toss the snuffle ball to your dog and watch them go to work! This toy encourages your dog to use their nose and brain to find the hidden treats, promoting cognitive skills and problem-solving.

Creating a snuffle ball is not only a great way to recycle materials, but it also fosters your dog's natural behaviors. Regular mental and physical stimulation is essential for their overall well-being. So grab your supplies and get crafting — your dog will thank you!
